Remastered, re-edited, classic concert footage

Elvis - That's The Way It Is has been digitally remastered and released on DVD.
Probably the best movie you will see!

What makes it so special?

In 1970 MGM decided they would film some of Elvis' performances mixed with rehearsal footage.

The film also focused on some more bizarre fans. (Remember the cat footage?!). The film could have been much better.

Then MGM hit gold! They found cans of film, left unused from the original movie, locked in a salt mine.

Restoration

The producers viewed the footage and used the original multitrack master tapes for the sound - this was digitally remastered. They were able to change every track and isolate the ones they didn't want to use. It resulted in the best sound you could wish for. You could be forgiven in thinking the sound was from a movie soundtrack recorded yesterday.

The movie was released around cinemas, but unfortunately, it was a limited release and failed to get seen by the public, who were unaware of this gem. What a waste! An opportunity lost by the distributors. It could have been a smash hit. In the end only a few select few ever got to see the film - most of them were Elvis fans.

Elvis On Tour - SE?

MGM own the footage to 'Elvis On Tour,' which they filmed in 1972. Now they have the lost footage to this classic, hidden in... you guessed it - a salt mine!

There has been lots of speculation as to whether this will be the next project for 'Turner'. The Turner company bought MGM and now own the footage. The only thing stopping them is whether they would think they could justify the cost of the editing and post production. MGM are a business and if they feel the project wouldn't recover the cost, they wouldn't go ahead.

Providing the funds are there for the promotion of such a film, I am certain  it would be a huge seller. Elvis is big news and there are lost of new fans out there. It's just a question of them hearing about a production.

Turner/MGM

Turner now owns everything that MGM had in their vaults. The outtakes, the original negatives, everything. Thanks to them this project gathered momentum. Ted Turner was the millionaire who bought their entire catalogue and now runs 'Turner Classic Movies' on satellite TV.

Unfortunately, due to some poor marketing, 'That's The Way It Is' special edition failed to sell as well as they wanted. The film is a masterpiece, which oozes quality.

I would urge everybody to view the film on DVD. It's superb! Definitely one for your collection.
